WAHAD is a multimedia organisation, based in Nottingham. Currently consisting of 5 founding members, between the ages of 17-19. They each have varying passions they want to explore with you. As a collective, one of their fundamental aims is to provide a contemporary platform and arts space where a creative community can grow, and legacies can be showcased. Their team is also focused on the encouragement of young black people in all types of: artistic, social and cultural exploration. They work closely with external individuals to exhibit their excellence.

WAHAD's intergenerational project aims to bridge the gap between Nottingham’s young artists and those of more experience. Taking inspiration from the themes of Future of Futures, they will connect creatives across generations for conversation and collaboration. Together, we will explore:

How do we make young people aware of the grassroot arts in Nottingham?
What resources and support are available to young creatives?
What skills have we learned from the pandemic hat can help us improve the arts community father?
What is the future of creativity in the region?

Episode 1:

What motivates you? How has the pandemic affected your art? Where do you aim to take this? What advice would you give to young artists? Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

In this first episode, we meet Qaa’sim as he attempts to answer these questions while sharing his love for capoeira as an art form. Looking back at the origins from enslaved Africans to the Portuguese language and its Brazilian roots. He speaks about how he has evolved with the practice from the age of 4, up until now as a society head at University in Manchester. Touching on what being a ‘Master’ in capoeira really means to him and their influence on the community as well as the relationships/ opportunities, this beautiful practice has given him.
