Summer Solstice Celebrations at Nottingham Contemporary

Nottingham Contemporary opens its doors to new and existing audiences, partners, collaborators and friends for Summer Solstice celebrations, a day filled with free cutting-edge showcases and activities overtaking the entire building. All the events are free and open for you to walk up and attend.

We can't wait to celebrate the Summer Solstice with you all. Don’t miss out on this extraordinary day of art, music, and community. Our exhibitions are open all day too.

Event Highlights:

The Robin Hood Youth Orchestra

11am - 12.30pm - Location: The Space

Immerse yourself in the enchanting melodies of the Robin Hood Youth Orchestra. This open rehearsal will fill The Space with harmonious notes, celebrating the spirit of community and creativity.

Kazna Asker: What are we Fighting For? Performative Fashion Show

2pm - 3.30pm - Location: The Space

Step into a world of storytelling, heritage and culture at the Kazna Asker Performative Fashion Show. Experience a fusion of henna art, chai, and zines while models strut down the runway. This unique presentation promises to be a feast for the senses.

WANAWAL Live Archiving Event

2pm - 3.30pm - Location: The Space

Speaking to themes of self-determination and creative freedom within Hamid Zénati’s exhibition, and practices of collecting and archiving explored in Claudia Martínez Garay’s exhibition, archivist Êvar Hussayni will present ephemera from the WANAWAL (The West Asian and North African Women’s Art Library) and invite visitors to join a live archiving event where we will collectively create an archive box of Kazna Asker’s performative fashion show, What Are We Fighting For?

Dance Around the World in 60 Minutes

4pm - 5pm -Location: The Space

Come and celebrate the solstice and Refugee Week with us in this dance workshop with music from around the world. The session is led by Colombian dancer, Monica Gracia in partnership with Refugee Roots. No previous dance experience required, just come and enjoy the music and movement.
