Join us in reading Kathryn Yusoff’s A Billion Black Anthropocenes or None and discuss the connections between climate change, race, and the politics of science and technology.
Slow Reading Group is an informal space for collectively reading meaningful texts that open out the ideas and themes from our research-based events at Nottingham Contemporary and the Three Ecologies Research Group at the University of Nottingham. Informed by Félix Guattari’s notion of the Three Ecologies - the idea that our environmental crisis relates to our contemporary capitalism - and by theories of decolonisation and intersectionality, the reading group invites you to plot connections between these fields, combining academic and everyday approaches to research.
No specialist expertise is needed for slow reading, other than an interest in reading with others.

Kathryn Yusoff is Professor of Inhuman Geography at Queen Mary University of London. In A Billion Black Anthropocenes or None, Yusoff examines how the grammar of geology is foundational to establishing the extractive economies of subjective life and the earth under colonialism and slavery. It is a compelling and transdisciplinary conversation between black feminist theory, geography, and the earth sciences, addressing the politics of the Anthropocene within the context of race, materiality, and deep time.
