Pageant On Paper Interactive Artwork

Pageant on Paper is a growing, interactive and participatory artwork celebrating women. Led by local theatre designers/artists Laura Cordery & Eleanor Field, the 9-metre-long artwork was inspired by theatre maker Edith Craig which began during their residency at the RADA festival (2018) as a way to recognise achievements of influential women, past and present. Visitors are invited to contribute to the work with their own drawings of women who have played a part in their lives.

Discovering women’s stories through exchange and discussion, the piece now holds over 200 contributions reflecting a beautiful display of community, diversity and strength. The ‘Pageant on Paper’ workshop at Nottingham Contemporary will be one of the final opportunities for visitors to add to the collective drawing as, towards the end of 2021, Laura and Eleanor will turn Pageant on Paper into a free interactive online artwork, with recordings and pop-up creative text about the women included, continuing the celebration and discovery of great women in a new digital space.

Participants do not need any experience or specific skills to contribute drawings and will be supported by workshop facilitators/artists.
