Grave robbing, torture, possessed nuns, and a satanic Sabbath - Haxan is a darkly humorous witch’s brew. Through a series of phantasmagorical vignettes, Benjamin Christensen chronicles the development of witchcraft, from its pagan origins to the onset of understanding mental illnesses. A brave, insightful and enduring documentary about the destructive power of religious intolerance and mankind’s fear of the unknown.

Monstrous Flesh is a multi disciplinary community venture focusing on the representation of women in horror, through curated film courses, events, talks, and a fortnightly podcast dedicated to exploring the origins of horror tropes.
Monstrous Flesh was founded in 2021 by Clelia McElroy, community cinema director and film events producer in Nottingham and the Midlands. In 2023, Clelia joined forces with Dr Megan Kenny, writer, podcaster, parapsychologist and folklorist. Together they host the Monstrous Flesh podcast and are currently working on a new film course centring on international folk horror.
