Work Experience Week 2026
We welcomed 15 students from 11 different educational settings from across Nottingham City and beyond to join us for our unique week of work experience at Nottingham Contemporary this July. Partner arts venues included Backlit Gallery, LensFayre, Before Sunset Studios and Wollaton Hall.
The week included experiences with artists, programmers, curators, photographers, taxidermists and technicians to gain an insight into the variety of careers within the arts. Practical opportunities provided opportunities to develop critical thinking skills involving collaboration, curiosity, creativity and building connections, as well as developing technical skills.
Backlit led a studio tour and zine making workshop with their youth collective, Pending Collective. The zines where scanned in and projected at our Friday celebration event at Nottingham Contemporary which was planned and set up by the work experience students, you can see these in the slide show above.
