Welcome to Studio 1
We are planning to transform our Studio 1 space into a dedicated new home for our local learning activities, live events, artist residencies and community hosting. This evolving space will sit at the heart of Nottingham Contemporary as a place for collaboration, gathering and exchange.
We want it to be agile, responsive and able to accommodate a rich and varied programme of activities and groups. Through inclusive, welcoming, and purposeful design, we’ll create an active space that gathers people together and encourages connections through art. It will be an area for artists and communities to develop their ideas and a space for them to make their own.
This spring we are inviting people into this space as we continue to develop plans and fundraise for this important new development. Through events, workshops and partnerships with local groups, we will explore how the space is used and gather feedback to help shape its future. We invite you to be part of this process and to help inform how the space looks, feels and functions. We'll host events, activities, and local groups and use these moments to find out how the space works. We want you to help shape how this space looks and is used.
Schools and community groups can use Studio 1 during their visit, and some of our activities with families and young people, as well as talks and tours, will take place here.
See Studio 1 event listings by clicking here.
Visitors can also drop into Studio 1. There you'll find reading materials, a film, and a drawing activity connected to our current exhibitions. There's also a collaborative mural mapping people’s relationship to Nottingham’s waterways and their shared memories of water. The artwork will grow as local schools and community groups contribute by taking part in workshops with our Associate Artist team.
We’re excited about bringing our local learning and engagement work closer to our exhibitions and to the heart of our building – we hope you are too.
