Associate Artist Team: Amelia Daiz

Hi, I'm Amelia and I work as an Associate Artist here at Nottingham Contemporary, and a socially engaged artist, facilitator and many other titles within the Nottingham creative community! I've worked as a facilitator of creative workshops across the East Midlands since 2017 and have also worked as an educator in SEMH and SEND settings. I really enjoy passing on my passion for arts to others and using art-making to help people and communities; something I learnt more about whilst studying for a Masters Degree in Socially Engaged Arts Practice. Within my arts practice I have used all kinds of materials from print, to film, to textiles, to sculpture and performance, and I enjoy finding ways to make Fine Art practices more accessible, affordable and environmentally friendly.

Currently my art practice is based around the idea of walking, and facilitating creative Walkshops aimed at improving peoples wellbeing and building a sense of community. I have a small organisation where I run regular walks for the public called Meanderers, and am thrilled to have been able to bring my walking practice into my work at Nottingham Contemporary. Walking offers a great starting point as a practice, that can take many paths and directions, and I've been developing methods of bringing in art making to the walks as well as social eating to provide a complete wellbeing offer.

I also enjoy writing and poetry and often combine this into my art practice. Previously I have performed as a poet and stand up comedian, and a sense of play is central to all of my projects. In my spare time I enjoy dancing, going to gigs and cultural events and spending time in nature. I'm really looking forward to getting to know more of the community and sharing my creative passion through my role as an Associate Artist.
