Shadow Writing (Lace/Variations)

Computation, Lace and Labour

25 May 2018 - 26 May 2018

‘Shadow Writing (Lace/Variations)’ by artist and curator Lorenzo Sandoval presents a space for encounters in a setting made of a modular furniture system that can provide different combinations. It works as a hosting place for meetings, a display system, and a library. The proposal seeks to be embedded with Nottingham Contemporary’s building and the history of the city taking as its departure point the industry of lace, and its relationship with early computation developments with the use of the Jacquard Loom.
The space will be activated through a series of talks over two days, reflecting on a genealogy of the relationships between work, computation, and reproductive labour and their contemporary articulation.
