To commemorate the 50th anniversary since the 1968 Race Relations Act was introduced, this national project reflects the voices of diverse communities from across the UK. The exhibition artworks have been developed by photographic artist Scarlett Crawford in collaboration with our local community. First Waves is being exhibited at Nottingham Contemporary before being shown as part of a larger installation at the Houses of Parliament in February 2019.

First Waves: Exploring the impact of race relations legislation in the UK is commissioned by The Speaker’s Advisory Committee on Works of Art, House of Commons.

Opening Reception

Tue 6 Nov: 6-7pm

Join us for the opening drinks reception for the First Waves exhibition at Nottingham Contemporary. There will be an informal discussion about the project with artist Scarlett Crawford and participants from the local community. This will be an opportunity to discover the history of the Race Relations Acts and to feed back about your experiences by creating a ‘river of life’.

All are welcome. Free entry.
