The Best and the Rest

A discussion about art, education and class

01 Nov 2016

In an age of increasing economic precarity among young people and decreased provision of arts education in schools, how do we make the arguments for cultural participation and to what end?

How can school and non-school based educators work against the class divisions in the arts and education that can only increase in the current climate?

Researchers Rubén Gaztambide-Fernández, author of The Best of the Best: Becoming Elite at an American Boarding School and Dr Eleonora Belfiore, co-Director of Studies of the Warwick Commission on the Future of Cultural Value discuss the class divide in arts education in the UK and the US and open up to the audience for discussion. Chaired by Dr Rebecca Coles, School of Education, University of Nottingham.
