We seek to support the engagement of young people within our gallery, to help them build transferrable skills and industry knowledge – to guide them forward in their individual practices, career and education ambitions. By working together we hope to learn and become a more responsive organisation using reflective practice to adjust to the needs of our local, younger communities.
We run an Advocacy Programme which is designed to help the young people we work with develop transferable skills, engage with our exhibitions and programmes and give them first hand experiences working within our gallery. We have had many young people take on and complete the Advocacy Project, helping them to build critical thinking, written and creative skills with the support of our staff.
Upon completion of an advocacy task we also offer our Advocates who live, work or study in Nottingham City a chance to become part of our Young People’s Steering Group, Collabor-8. Working in our peer led steering group allows the opportunity to build further skills, working on events programming, community work, creative projects, outreach and much more – brilliant CV building experiences.
